Bleeding stigmata

Italian stigmatic Giorgio Bongiovanni, born in Sicily in 1963, first received his stigmata during a visit to Fatima in Portugal, the famous pilgrim site where visions of the Virgin Mary were witnessed in 1917. The five passion marks (two in his palms, two in his feet, and one in his side) bleed almost daily - photographed here in 1993- Bongiovanni has had several visions of jesus and Mary; the first time he saw Jesus, he was descending from a UFO and was dressed in fuchsia-coloured overalls, ©DR Elmar R. Holy holes

Another Italian stigmatic* is Antonio Ruffini, who has had the stigmata since 1951 when he saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary. He built a chapel at the place where this happened, south of Rome. The wounds have been examined by doctors. They go through the palms of the hands and the feet, and usually such wounds would become infected, but Mr Ruffini has had no problems and can use his hands without difficulty.
